Theme in The Hunger Games
My theme is Humanity and Inhumanity. Inhumanity is when someone gets ‘turned’ into an object when they are really a human. To treat someone inhumanly is to take away their rights as a human and to treat them brutally. Humanity is being human. Having the rights of human and doing things a human would do. Humanity vs. Inhumanity is basically regular humans living life normally in democracy vs. humans that are forced to be an object or have no rights and are told what do do, and they can't make their own decisions.
My quotes relate to my theme because they're all in a way talking about being changed in the games or The Capitol changing them into "monstrous killing machines". These quotes are saying how humanity and inhumanity work against each other. The tributes in the games are real human living life in Panem and doing their normal routine (Humanity). When they get chosen for the games each and everyone of them worries about how they will change and be forced to kill the others (Inhumanity).
In my research I connected my quotes to the Civil Rights Movement because the quotes says "Only I keep wishing I could think of a way to… to show the Capitol they don’t own me." I made this connection because black people were treated as if they were Inhumane because they had not rights and they were controlled to do things that they didn't want to do. I also made a connection to putting Joseph Kony in jail for the horrible things he has done. I related the two because in the quote it says “I want to do something, right here, right now, to shame them.". Putting Kony in jail would be shaming him for these awful things he did. I also connected people suffering from schizophrenia because it talked about how there was this one boy from District 2 that was crazy and wanted to eat the dead tributes. I connected this because it seemed to me like people suffering from schizophrenia. The last quote stated “ The monstrous boy from District 2 is a ruthless killing machine. “ I connected this quote to the local Vancouver serial killer Gilbert Paul Jordan. I connected this real world example because it says he is a ruthless killing machine, which is what a serial killer is.

Gender Stereo Types
Gender stereo types are things that people associate with a certain gender. For example people might associate motherly with a women, and some people would associate strong with a man. These things might not be true. Some girls might have the qualities of men and some men might have the qualities of women.
Yes, there are a few character traits that do not conform to gender stereotypes. For example, Katniss is brave, strong, and hard working. Using gender stereo types you wouldn't put those traits with a women. Peeta on the other hand has a feminine side to him and he is more emotional. Most people would associate these traits with a women.
In my opinion The Hunger Games does show gender equality because they don't base the characters traits on gender stereotypes. Characters might have both traits of a man and a women. It shows that women can be brave. strong, responsible, loving, motherly. Also that men can be feminine, trustworthy, emotional. In this book it tells you that men aren't always the strong ones and that they can have a softer side aswell.

Agony
Agony is navy blue
It tatses like bitter chocolate
Smells like an old, dusty chair
It feels like someone stabbing my heart
Sounds like someone crying out for help
It looks like fire burning through a medow of flowers
Agony is an endless wall stopping me from moving on.
